Healthy Eating Motivation: It’s All in the Mind
One of the best ways to develop a healthy eating motivation is to start by changing the way you think. You have to develop a positive outlook, allowing you to believe that you can achieve your goal to make better eating choices.
One way to do this is to create positive affirmations. For example, you can tell yourself that you will eat more fruits and vegetables, instead of saying that you will not eat unhealthy junk food.
Here are some other tips to help you eat healthier:
1. Start with small goals
Instead of trying to change your entire diet overnight to a healthier one, start with more manageable changes. For example, you can gradually replace the amount of red meat that you eat with healthier alternatives, such as fish or poultry. Or why not try veggie Monday’s or vegan before 6.
Or why not add one green smoothie to your daily diet? It’s an achievable, yummy, and easy habit! Download my FREE green smoothie eBook here to get you started.
2. Measure your progress using a journal
A food and diet journal enables you to keep track of what changes you’ve made and how much you’ve achieved towards your goal of eating healthier. You can either go old school and keep a handwritten journal or use your smartphone or laptop/desktop computer.
3. Ask your friends and family for support
Making these kinds of healthy lifestyle choices can be challenging if you’re doing it alone, since it is easy to give in to temptation. However, if you have a friend or family member who will hold you accountable (in a positive way) to the goals you have set, you will have an easier time meeting your goals.
4. Fill your pantry and refrigerator with healthier foods
Give away or throw out all of those junky snack foods or processed foods. Stock up on items such as fresh fruits, vegetables with a healthy dip such as hummus or guacamole, plain unsweetened or unflavored cultured yogurt (if not vegan), and healthy snacks.
5. Make sure to enjoy what you eat
One of the reasons why people resist healthy eating is that they associate it with bland and tasteless foods. However, there are ways to prepare food, so that it retains its nutritional properties while still being tasty.
Also, you are more likely to keep up your healthy eating habits if you enjoy the food you eat. It is not because avocados are a trendy health food that you should eat them if you don’t like their taste. Find out what flavors work for you and your family.
6. Don’t be too hard on yourself
Rome wasn’t built in one day, and those pounds or unhealthy habits weren’t generated overnight. When you’re making basic lifestyle changes, such as shifting to a healthier diet, it is inevitable for you to slip sometimes.
Keep in mind that you don’t have to get rid of all unhealthy foods from your diet, and you can cheat. What is important is to keep your consumption of these foods under control and within limits.

7. Celebrate your successes
Every time you achieve a goal, no matter how minor it seems, make it a cause for celebration. You can use these occasions as a reason to cheat by eating foods, such as ice cream or chocolates. You can also treat yourself to something you enjoy, such as eating at a fancy restaurant.
In conclusion, developing a healthy eating motivation is something that will take time and effort, so BE PATIENT and avoid expecting to achieve your goals overnight. Take it one step at a time and you will eventually succeed in changing your diet to a healthier one.
