Can Lemons Really Fight Cancer?

Can Lemons Really Fight Cancer?

Whether it is the claim about lemons curing cancer or any other fruit or vegs, these statements should be taken with a grain of salt. Yes, these statements are often based on scientific research. But what do they mean and can something as simple as consuming lemons stop cancer in its tracks?

Cancer could be compared to weeds. While most gardens tend to have a bit in small crevices and corners, most well-maintained gardens will have flourishing plants that can easily overtake and out-compete weeds for space and nutrients.

When a garden isn’t well-maintained, however, weeds can grow out of proportion and start invading other plants, suffocating and killing them until they’re the only ones left. The same goes for cancer — it goes out of hand and affects other healthy cells when the immune system can no longer efficiently destroy the abnormal cells.

With that in mind, a lot of patients opt for chemotherapy, which is almost like indiscriminately plucking patches that seem to have a huge number of weeds in them, but also contain some other plants (or healthy cells) in them.

Now, whether one is opting for chemotherapy or other methods, the immune system is still significantly compromised and will need nutritional boosts in order to effectively fend off cancer cells. And with lemons typically being used for detox diets, could they also hold the key to fighting cancer?

Can Lemons Fight Cancer?

The idea of lemon juice detox diets is to help rid the body of perceived toxins. It is said to help lose weight, restore energy, fight cancer, etc. Unfortunately, going on such a strict detox diet typically designed for weight loss, which only allows water and lemon juice, will often stress your body out because of the lack of carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, and other important nutrients.

While lemons are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, especially the immune-boosting vitamin C, when accompanied by a poor diet, it won’t be of much help.

For Better Cancer Ammunition: A Balanced Diet with Lemons

No single super fruit can help fight against an enemy that can mutate cells and multiply at an alarming rate. Since the body processes nutrients much less efficiently when under attack by cancer cells, it needs foods that are more bioavailable, meaning that the nutrients are much more easily absorbed.

For instance, vitamin B12 can be taken as cyanocobalamin or methylcobalamin. The former is used typically in cheap multivitamins while the latter is used in natural products and higher quality multivitamins. This is because the former, while much cheaper to manufacture, is much harder to absorb. That goes without saying that fast food, junk food, and other processed foods are off-limits.

What fruits like lemons can do, however, is to boost the immune system enough for it to effectively fend off and destroy cancer cells. The body has an incredibly robust self-detox system, and by adding the immune-boosting lemon to a healthy diet, regular exercise, and quality sleep, your body will be able to effectively keep its proverbial garden free of invasive weeds.

The question, “Can lemons fight cancer?” should be changed to “Can lemons help fight cancer?”

Since your body is the most accurate and precise weapon against cancer cells. No medicine or food to date can directly kill cancer without affecting healthy cells.

But what about the stories you heard about turmeric’s power to fight cancer. It is true that an active compound found in turmeric, called curcumin, can destroy cancer cells. However, turmeric only contains about 2 percent curcumin, making it impossible to get enough curcumin to fight cancer through your diet. Same goes for the antioxidants and other cancer-fighting substances found in lemons or other fruits and veggies.

Most of the studies done about the ability of lemons or turmeric or any other plant to fight cancer use concentrates of a particular compound(s), such as curcumin. The concentrations of the active compounds used in these studies are almost always impossible to achieve via our diet.

Today, however, we live in a chemical world where big pharmaceutical companies rule. There is no big money to be made with cures that can easily be extracted from nature. Though there are far better ways to cure cancer, they remain the best-kept secrets of the media and medical world. As a patient, it can be very confusing as to what the options are. Chemo and radiation are in most cases not the answer. My father-in-law recently died because of the effects of chemotherapy.

Your Lifestyle Is The Cancer-fighting Key

Ever since we started to rely on processed convenient foods, chemical-laden fruit and vegs, and hormone or antibiotic infused meat, our health has significantly declined. But not only our eating habits have changed over time, today many people are stressed and do not reserve time to exercise. On top of that many of us have a sedentary job while spending hours of their free time on the couch.

Though you can definitely say that it is a good idea to start your day with a glass of lukewarm lemon water and have some more fresh lemon during the day, lemons alone are not the answer to prevent and help fight this dreadful disease.

YOUR DIET AND HABITS MATTER!!

Does this mean you can’t have an occasional chocolate muffin or glass of wine? No, it doesn’t, but moderation is key. Remember the weeds, if you maintain your garden, the garden can easily take care of the few weeds growing.

Just like your body can perfectly clean up cancerous or abnormal cells – which are formed in every healthy body daily. It’s when the body is not nourished that these abnormal cells will start to grow out of control and take over your body.
