The Amazing Benefits of Moringa Oleifera, The Miracle Tree

It’s not every day that you hear about Moringa Oleifera and its numerous benefits to one’s health. Some people might not even know it at all.

I didn’t know a lot about it either until we visited a local Organic Moringa farm here in Cambodia. We use its fresh leaves in smoothies, juices, dressings, salads, soups, and every other dish that could use some green. It tastes like spinach but way better. When we are out of leaves, we use dried powdered in our smoothies instead.

Read my previous post here.

While I know that it is not so long ago that I made the post about my farm visit, given its superpowers (and my recent obsession with it) I thought a second post that explains the trees’ benefits in more detail might be in its place!

Moringa Oleifera touted as “The Miracle Tree”

Native to North India, Moringa Oleifera is an edible tree, which is also known for its other names, including drumstick tree and ben oil tree. It is popular for its long twisted pods and is easily recognizable because of its light-colored knotted trunk, and extremely branched complex leaves.

This tree can grow in different parts of the world since it grows well in various climates. It can resist the dry and cold seasons. As a matter of fact, Moringa Oleifera grows in almost every country where malnutrition is prevalent. In Africa, they call it the “Miracle Tree” because aside from battling malnutrition, it also helps prevent water pollution, and cures different kinds of illness.

For many years, praises have been given for the many benefits of Moringa Oleifera. It is already considered a superfood because it is so nutritious, has good antioxidants, and other healthy compounds. It is also available in different forms, such as fresh leaves, oil, teas, powders, and capsules.

Benefits of Moringa Oleifera

1. It Is Full of Nutrition

Almost every part of the Moringa Oleifera tree is edible. It is also used to produce herbal medicines. In Africa and India, people commonly eat the pods and leaves, which are known to provide a lot of nutrients.

The leaves are a great source of calcium and are rich in many other essential vitamins and minerals. It also has more protein, potassium, and more vitamin C than most other food sources.

2. It Is Rich in Antioxidants

Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body, which can cause stress and chronic diseases. Among the benefits of Moringa Oleifera leaves are lowering blood pressure, and regulating blood sugar levels. Given it many nutrients and high levels of antioxidants, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if this plant can cure cancer. Early research looks very promising.

3. It Reduces Certain Types of Inflammation

Inflammation usually occurs when there’s injury or infection. While it serves as a defensive mechanism, it can become a problem if it remains for a long time. The seeds, leaves, and pods of Moringa, contain flavonoids and chlorogenic acid which have anti-inflammatory properties.

4. It Helps Lower Cholesterol

Too much cholesterol can lead to heart disease. There is a variety of plant foods that can help lower cholesterol in the body and Moringa Oleifera is one of them.

5. It Assists Breastfeeding Mothers

One of the excellent benefits of Moringa Oleifera is that it helps in increasing the supply of milk for mothers who are in the breastfeeding stage. Some supplement companies even recommend it as a prenatal vitamin.

6. It Helps Boost Energy

Moringa Oleifera contains amino acids that are essential for the repair and regeneration of body tissues. It provides long-lasting energy, which many people, who regularly take it, have been noticing.

You should try taking Moringa when fresh, since that’s when it is considered healthiest and most effective. Also, it’s easy to grow the plant if you want to use it as an herbal medicine.

This plant is highly nutritious and especially beneficial for those who seem to lack the essential nutrients that their body needs. These health benefits of Moringa Oleifera might just make your daily life better.
